Dimitra Milioni

Prof. Milioni is Assistant Professor in Media Studies in the Department of Communication and Internet Studies, Cyprus University of Technology. Her research focuses on critical approaches to the study of the media and communication technologies and their impact on the public sphere. She has published about 30 journal articles and book chapters on topics relating to journalism, new technologies, and social and political conflict. Her research work has appeared in journals such as Media, Culture & Society, Convergence, Javnost/The Public, and International Journal of Communication, among others. She is the co-author of the monograph “Alternative Media: A heterogeneous place of agency and resistance to power” (forthcoming). She holds a BSc in Journalism and Media Studies and a PhD in New Media and Communication from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She has directed or co-directed five research projects, most of them with multiple partners, and she has participated as a researcher and national coordinator in four more international projects (e.g. Worlds of Journalism Study, World Internet Project). Her research interests include media and conflict, alternative and participatory media, protest and social movements, political communication, audience participation, and critical algorithm studies. She is the Coordinator of RePAST and she will lead research work within WP3 Troubled Pasts in Journalistic and Citizen-Led Media and WP4 Troubled Pasts in Arts and Culture for the case of Cyprus.
