Paschalia (Lia) Spyridou is currently Assistant Professor at the Cyprus University of Technology, Department of Public Communication. She holds an MA in Communication from the University of Westminster, and a PhD in Journalism and New Media from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2012 she was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the Aristotle University for her research on participatory journalism. She has had research and teaching positions at the University of Macedonia (Greece), New York College, Aristotle University, Open University Greece and the University of Cyprus. Lia has participated in several research projects: Assessing the Risk for Media Pluralism in EU and beyond, Framing Financial Crisis and Protest: Northwest and Southeast Europe, European Media, Immigration and Third-country Nationals, COST Action IS0906: Transforming Audiences, Transforming Societies. Her work has appeared among others in Journalism Studies, European Journal of Communication, Journalism, International Communication Gazette. Her research interests lie in the fields of journalism, participatory media, political communication, new media and activism.
